Here Comes the Sun
12” x 16”; Watercolor on paper; 2021
Each spring around Mother’s Day, Orioles begin to arrive in Wisconsin. Anyone who lives here knows how long the winters are, how they can linger well into spring, and many of us wait with great anticipation for the arrival of warm weather, green leaves, and singing birds. When the Orioles show up, its a sign that spring is here and winter is behind us. To me, Orioles are a symbol of the constancy and reliability of nature, that no matter how long and dark and cold the winter, spring will always come and bring with it the promise of new life, sunshine, and singing birds.
