Watching and Waiting

from $45.00

16” x 20”, Acrylic on canvas, 2019

In 2018, my husband, daughter, and I moved from Milwaukee to Thiensville, WI. After 12 years of city living, our new home and .75 acre yard with a little pond and forest in the back felt like paradise. One of the first days after we’d settled in, I hung a bird feeder outside of the kitchen window. A few hours later, I looked out to see a family of bluebirds congregating at the bird feeder. Bluebirds have always been a powerful symbol of joy to me. To have a whole family show up literally at my backdoor felt like a good omen, like a message from the universe that this would be a place full of love and joy…and it has been. In the three years since we first moved here, we’ve set up a number of birdhouses and provide our bluebirds with a continuous supply of mealworms. In return, they stay here all winter, and we have a new family of baby bluebirds in our birdhouse every spring. One of the greatest simple joys in my life is looking out the window and seeing my bluebirds at the feeder. (“Watching” and “Waiting” are a set; $500 is the price for both originals; $45 is the price for both prints.)
